More new craft / textile workshops at the Fernhurst Centre in November and December. The first of these to be held on Wednesday 13 November 2013 1pm - 4pm is ‘Japanese Braid Making’ “Kumi” means “coming together” and “himo” describes a length of cord . Together they refer to the way of making braids. Traditionally, a wooden loom called a Marudai is used, and decorative and functional cords are produced using fine silks. In this introductory workshop, we will use a card loom (which we will make) with wool and cotton yarns to learn the basics of this braiding technique. The decorative braids produced can then be used to make into jewellery, to embellish garments etc. All equipment will be provided. Students may wish to bring favourite yarns to experiment with. The Second workshop is ‘Making Decorations for Christmas’ An introduction to this dry method of felting to make 3D shapes and embellishments on Wednesday 4 December 2013 10 am - 1pm. Both workshops cost £15 and should be - there will be a charge of £3 for material for the December workshop and this is payable to the tutor on the day.
If you haven’t got and iPad but have a Tablet using the Android system we have a course for you. 'An Introduction to using your Android Tablet'. Wednesday 22 and 29 January 9.30 - 1130 am. This is a new course and will be just as popular as our course for iPads so book now to avoid disappointment.
